About the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds – Black
Bose Ultra Open Earbuds take a different approach to wireless listening. Instead of sealing your ear canal, they use an open-ear design held gently in place behind the ear by flexible joints, so you can enjoy music and podcasts while staying connected to the world around you. Bose OpenAudio technology is designed to keep the sound personal while you stay aware.
They're a good fit for runners, cyclists and commuters, and for anyone who wants to stay tuned in to their surroundings during long listening sessions. The light grip is made for all-day wear, touch controls are built in, and an IPX4 rating adds resistance to sweat and splashes. Bose Immersive Audio adds a spatial effect so music feels like it's playing around you rather than inside your head.
Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint lets you switch between two devices, and the Bose app lets you adjust the EQ to taste. The charging case uses USB-C, and the earbuds carry Snapdragon Sound certification.
What reviewers say
Reviewers find the Ultra Open Earbuds very comfortable and like that they keep you aware of your surroundings, with sound that beats most open-ear rivals. The main drawbacks are lighter bass than sealed earbuds, middling call quality, and a case without wireless charging, and testers disagree on how much sound leaks out to people nearby.
Pros
- Comfortable for hours with a barely-there feel
- Better sound than most open-ear designs
- Lets you hear traffic and people around you while listening
- Good battery life and handy multipoint pairing
Cons
- Bass is lighter than sealed earbuds because the ear canal stays open
- Call quality is only average
- Case lacks wireless charging and the buds can feel easy to lose
