About the Sony WH-1000XM6 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones – Platinum Silver
The Sony WH-1000XM6 is a pair of wireless over-ear headphones built around noise canceling. Sony's HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3 works with 12 microphones to cut down background sound, while 30 mm drivers handle the music. This listing is the Platinum Silver finish.
They suit commuters, frequent flyers and anyone working in a noisy space who wants long listening sessions without charging every day. Sony rates battery life at up to 30 hours with noise canceling on and up to 40 hours with it off. A 3-minute top-up on a USB Power Delivery adapter (sold separately) gives roughly 3 hours of playback.
Connection options are broad: Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3 codecs, plus multipoint pairing so you can stay connected to a phone and a laptop at the same time. For calls, Sony uses a six-microphone beamforming system that focuses on your voice. The headphones weigh about 254 g, and you can also listen through a headphone cable.
What reviewers say
Reviewers widely place the WH-1000XM6 among the strongest noise-canceling headphones available, praising its improved noise canceling, comfortable fit, detailed sound and the return of a folding design. Most describe it as a careful refinement of the XM5 rather than a big leap, and the common complaints are the higher launch price, battery life that has not moved on from the XM5 and the lack of audio over USB-C.
Pros
- Noise canceling that reviewers rank at the top of its class
- Comfortable fit, and the headphones fold again for easier travel
- Warm, detailed sound with LDAC and LC3 support
- Clearer call quality than the previous model
Cons
- Launched at a higher price than the XM5 for a fairly incremental upgrade
- Battery life is unchanged from the XM5, and some rivals last much longer
- No audio over USB-C and no aptX support
