About the Sonos Era 100 Smart Speaker
The Sonos Era 100 is a compact smart speaker sized for a bookshelf, kitchen counter, desk or nightstand. Two angled tweeters create stereo separation from a single unit, a midwoofer 25% larger than the Sonos One's deepens the bass, and a processor 47% faster than before keeps it responsive.
It streams from your favorite services over Wi-Fi and pairs with a phone over Bluetooth at the press of a button. You can also hook up a turntable or other source through the USB-C port using the Sonos Line-In Adapter and an aux cable. Trueplay tuning in the Sonos app analyzes your room and adjusts the EQ, and voice control works with Amazon Alexa or Sonos Voice Control.
Setup is simple: plug in the power cable, connect your phone to Wi-Fi and open the Sonos app. That makes the Era 100 an easy first step into Sonos, and it can grow with you as a stereo pair, alongside a Sonos Sub Mini, or as rear surrounds with a Sonos Beam (Gen 2).
What reviewers say
Reviewers see the Era 100 as a clear upgrade on the Sonos One, with fuller, more detailed sound, stereo playback from one box and an excellent streaming and setup experience. Criticisms include bass that can sound less refined than usual for Sonos, the lack of Google Assistant, and the extra cost of the adapter needed for wired sources.
Pros
- Fuller, more detailed sound than the Sonos One
- Stereo playback from a single compact speaker
- Easy setup and a strong streaming feature set
Cons
- Line-in requires a separately sold adapter
- Bass can sound less refined than usual for Sonos
- No Google Assistant support
