About the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Cordless Vacuum with Floor Dok
The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is a bagless cordless stick vacuum aimed at homes with pets and a mix of floor types. Its Hyperdymium motor produces up to 315 air watts of suction in Boost mode, and Dyson rates the battery for up to 70 minutes of fade-free running in Eco mode. In Auto mode, it adjusts to the floor type and the amount of debris it detects.
Two cleaner heads come in the box. The de-tangling All Floors head is designed to deal with long hair on any surface, while the Fluffy Optic head lights up fine dust on hard floors so you can see what you're picking up. The CleanCompaktor bin compresses dust so you can fit more in before emptying, and it wipes clean. A HEPA filter handles filtration.
The included Floor Dok holds the vacuum along with as many as two tools, and you also get a Crevice tool 2.0 and Hair screw tool 2.0. Built-in tools and a remote-release cleaner head make switching to handheld cleaning easier, and the MyDyson app provides software updates, custom settings and maintenance guidance.
What reviewers say
Reviewers like the V16 Piston Animal's anti-tangle cleaner head, which copes well with long pet and human hair. They also praise the compacting bin that makes emptying cleaner, the long run time and the quick-release tools. Opinions split on cleaning results and value: some lab and real-world tests found it no better, or slightly worse, than the V15 on carpet and in pick-up tests, and it's heavier and costs more.
Pros
- Very effective at stopping long hair wrapping around the brush bar
- Bin compacts debris and empties more hygienically
- Long run time, and no trigger to hold down while cleaning
- Quick-release head and tools mean less bending
Cons
- Some tests found carpet cleaning and suction results no better than older Dyson models
- Heavier and less nimble than the V15
- Angled front edge of the floorhead can make cleaning along edges awkward
