About the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)
The second-generation Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones are over-ear wireless headphones built around adjustable active noise cancellation. Quiet mode gives you full noise cancelling, Aware mode lets surrounding sound in, with ActiveSense automatically adjusting noise cancelling to keep louder sounds in check, and Immersion mode adds Bose Immersive Audio for a more spacious sound. There's also a Cinema mode for movies and shows.
Bose rates battery life at up to 30 hours, or up to 23 hours with Immersive Audio on, and a 15-minute charge gives up to 3 hours of playback. Bluetooth 5.4 supports aptX Adaptive with compatible Snapdragon Sound devices, and you can also listen over USB-C or with the included 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm audio cable.
At about 0.58 lb, they suit commuters, frequent flyers and anyone who wants noise-cancelling headphones for long listening sessions. A carry case and USB-C cable come in the box.
What reviewers say
Reviewers see the second generation as a modest refresh. Noise cancelling is good but measured about the same as the first model, the slightly bass-leaning sound suits most listeners, and the well-padded, lightweight build is comfortable, though it can get warm over long sessions. Wired USB-C lossless listening is a welcome addition, but the app's EQ is basic, some connection hiccups were reported, and there's no water resistance rating.
Pros
- Good noise cancelling, on par with the first generation
- Comfortable, well-padded and light plastic build
- Pleasant, slightly bass-leaning sound out of the box
- Wired USB-C audio for lossless listening with compatible sources
Cons
- In-app EQ is too basic for precise tuning
- Some connection issues reported in testing
- No IP rating for sweat or rain
