About the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX10 4-Channel DJ Controller
The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX10 is a four-channel controller for serious hobbyists and working DJs who want a club-style layout plus some of the newest performance tools. It runs rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro out of the box, also supports djay Pro with a paid subscription, and connects to a Mac or PC over USB-C.
Its headline feature is real-time stems: you can split a track into vocals, drums and instruments, then adjust or mute individual parts, choose which parts receive effects, or copy a part onto another deck to build live remixes and mashups. The jog wheels carry an on-jog display that can show deck information, zoomed waveforms, artwork or your own logo, and a multicolor jog ring follows the active parts. The four-sensor MAGVEL crossfader is built for precise control, and Beat FX, backlit performance pads, Beat Jump and Tempo Reset cover everyday performance needs.
A built-in DMX output lets rekordbox drive compatible lighting without an extra interface, and Mix Point Link can start the next track automatically at a point you set. At 6.7 kg it is a substantial desktop unit best suited to home studios, mobile DJ rigs and venue booths.
What reviewers say
Reviewers rate the DDJ-FLX10 as a capable pro-level controller. Home DJ Studio praises its familiar club-style layout, the accurate four-sensor MAGVEL crossfader, the built-in DMX output for rekordbox lighting and the fact that one unit covers both rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro, and MusicRadar and Digital DJ Tips are also positive about its stems features. The drawbacks are that rekordbox's stem separation doesn't sound as clean as Serato's, the unit is heavier and larger than the DDJ-1000 it follows, and it costs noticeably more, with DVS use an extra expense.
Pros
- Familiar, industry-standard layout that is easy to use
- Deep real-time stems features for live remixing
- Built-in DMX lighting output is handy for mobile DJs
- Works with both rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro
Cons
- Stem separation in rekordbox is less clean than in Serato
- Heavier and larger than the DDJ-1000 it follows
- Costs noticeably more than its predecessor, and DVS use costs extra
