About the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 2-Channel DJ Controller
The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 is a compact two-channel controller aimed at people learning to DJ. It replaces Pioneer DJ's long-running DDJ-400, bringing new features and a refreshed design.
Smart Mixing features are designed to help newcomers create smooth transitions quickly, while jog wheels, performance pads, a crossfader, EQ and onboard effects controls give you hands-on control as your skills grow. It works with rekordbox on Mac and PC and with compatible Android devices, connecting over a single USB-C cable. Because it can draw power from that USB connection, there is no separate power brick to carry for most setups.
Connections are simple: an RCA master output feeds powered speakers, a 1/4-inch mic input lets you talk over the mix, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack handles cueing. At about 2.1 kg it is light enough to take to a friend's house or a small party, making it a practical first controller for bedroom DJs and casual party hosts.
What reviewers say
The DDJ-FLX4 is widely regarded as one of the strongest beginner DJ controllers, with Home DJ Studio, Magnetic Mag and Promobile praising its club-style layout, beginner-friendly Smart Mixing tools and easy learning curve. Best Buy and Walmart shoppers like its value, portability and USB power. Common criticisms are a slightly cramped mixer section, a single unbalanced master output with no booth out, a plastic-heavy build and the two-channel limit, and full Serato DJ Pro needs a paid upgrade.
Pros
- Club-style layout that makes moving to pro gear easier
- Very approachable for beginners, with helpful Smart Mixing tools
- Light, portable and powered over USB
- Works with rekordbox and Serato DJ Lite
Cons
- Mixer section feels a little cramped
- Only an unbalanced RCA master out, with no booth output
- Plastic-heavy chassis and only two channels
