About the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai Robot Vacuum and Mop

The Spot+Scrub Ai is Dyson's wet-and-dry robot: it vacuums and mops in one pass, with a particular focus on stains. An angled green light shows up marks on hard floors, an HD camera with on-board AI identifies them, and the robot will go back over a patch up to 15 times. Dyson says the AI recognises close to 200 objects and substances, so it steers around cables, socks and pet bowls.

A wet roller washes itself with 60°C water on every rotation and extends outwards to clean along edges, while a separate dry roller handles debris. On carpet the wet roller lifts clear, and the dry roller retracts over wet spills to avoid smearing. Dyson quotes 18,000Pa of suction, a 200-minute run time and DToF LiDAR mapping.

The dock does the housekeeping: it empties the robot into a bagless cyclonic bin that Dyson says holds up to 100 days of dirt, washes the mop roller with hot water, dries it with heated air and refills from a 2.3-litre clean-water tank. Scheduling and maps live in the MyDyson app, and it works with Amazon Alexa.

What reviewers say

Reviews are positive but cautious. PCWorld rated obstacle avoidance excellent and found it finished runs ahead of schedule; TechRadar's two-month test found the mop roller still looked almost new thanks to the dock's self-cleaning and liked the bagless base; Tom's Guide said it handles dried-on marks well; Mumsnet rated hard-floor mopping its strength. The reservations: PCWorld said it left some cat litter behind and was less consistent on a low-pile rug, T3 found the app less capable than rivals' and suction lower than Dyson's 360 Vis Nav, TechRadar flagged noise and the size of robot and dock, and T3 and Mumsnet both note rivals do similar work for less. Tom's Guide concludes it is good for hands-off upkeep but does not clearly beat the premium competition.

Pros

  • Excellent obstacle avoidance and reliable navigation in testing
  • Self-washing roller stays clean; bagless dock means no bags to buy
  • Strong hard-floor mopping, including dried-on marks

Cons

  • Expensive, and reviewers say rivals offer similar results for less
  • App is less capable than competitors'; mopping can still need a manual follow-up
  • Tall robot (about 11 cm) and a large dock; some reviewers found it noisy
