About the Yamaha P-145 88-Key Digital Piano, Black
The Yamaha P-145 is the entry-level model in Yamaha's P series of portable digital pianos, designed for beginners who want the experience of an acoustic piano without its size or weight. Compared with the model it replaces, it has a noticeably shorter, slimmer body that fits more easily on a desk, stand or in a smaller room.
The 88 full-size, touch-sensitive keys use Yamaha's GHC (Graded Hammer Compact) weighted action, built to give a playing feel similar to the GHS keyboard found on earlier P series models. Yamaha's AWM sampling provides 10 voices with 64-note polyphony, along with four reverb types and a Sound Boost setting, and Duo mode lets a teacher and student play side by side.
Two built-in speakers powered by 7 watts each handle everyday practice, a headphone jack keeps things quiet when needed, and USB to Host connects to a computer or app for MIDI. The controls are deliberately simple, with no screen to navigate, so you can focus on playing. A sustain pedal, music rest and power adapter are included, and the piano is compatible with Yamaha's L-100 stand.
What reviewers say
Reviewers see the P-145 as a strong beginner piano that puts playability and portability ahead of extra features. Pianist's Compass praises its piano tone, improved speakers and compact body and says the GHC action feels very close to the older GHS, while MusicRadar likes its build, value and simple design. On the downside, MusicRadar finds some of the extra voices unimpressive and expects some players to outgrow its limited features, and the action isn't the most realistic available.
Pros
- Pleasing main piano sound with improved speakers
- Compact and light enough to move easily
- Simple, beginner-friendly controls and good value
- GHC action feels close to Yamaha's previous GHS keyboard
Cons
- Limited features may prompt an upgrade sooner
- Extra voices are unremarkable
- Key action is not as realistic as pricier models
