About the Meta Quest 3 512GB Mixed Reality VR Headset
Meta Quest 3 is a standalone mixed reality headset that can take you fully into virtual worlds or blend digital content with the room around you. It runs on a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip with 8GB of RAM, and its LCD displays with pancake lenses refresh at up to 120 Hz. Lens spacing adjusts from 53 to 75 mm, and prescription lens inserts are available. Built-in stereo speakers provide 3D spatial audio, with a 3.5 mm jack for headphones. Wi-Fi 6E is built in, and you can also play PC content on Windows using a Meta Quest Link cable or Steam Link.
It is aimed at families and gamers, covering games, fitness, entertainment and productivity apps. Average battery life is up to 2.2 hours, the headset weighs 515 grams, and Meta accounts are for ages 10 and up.
What reviewers say
Reviewers rate the Quest 3 as a big leap over the Quest 2, praising its much stronger graphics, sharper image, clear color passthrough for mixed reality and the option to play standalone or connected to a PC. Common complaints are the basic cloth strap, which can get uncomfortable in longer sessions, battery life of only around two hours, and the limited contrast of its LCD panels.
Pros
- Much stronger graphics performance and sharper visuals than Quest 2
- Color passthrough clear enough to see your phone and surroundings
- Works standalone or connected to a PC for high-end VR
- Quick room setup and well-designed controllers
Cons
- Included strap gets uncomfortable during longer sessions
- Battery lasts only around two hours
- LCD panels show raised black levels that limit contrast
