About the GoPro MAX2 8K 360° Action Camera
The GoPro MAX2 is a 360-degree action camera that records 8K 360° video, capturing everything around you so you can decide on the framing later. When mounted on an extension pole, the pole is hidden from the recording, giving a floating-camera look for selfie and POV footage. It also takes 29MP 360° photos.
Built for tough conditions, the MAX2 is waterproof to 16 feet and uses replaceable lenses, so a damaged lens can be swapped out rather than putting the whole camera out of action. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth and built-in GPS are on board, and the GoPro Quik app lets you turn 360° recordings into standard POV or selfie clips, adjust the viewing angle and export vertical or widescreen video for social platforms.
Other features include stereo microphones with wind-noise reduction, image stabilization, time-lapse and burst photo modes, and an Enduro battery. It suits creators, travelers and adventure-sports fans who want to capture the whole scene and choose the best angle afterwards.
What reviewers say
TechRadar, Tom's Guide, Expert Reviews and CNET rate the MAX2 as a strong return for GoPro's 360 line, praising sharp 8K footage in good light, pro-friendly options such as Log and 10-bit color, the swappable lenses and an easy reframing workflow in the Quik app. The most common complaint is weaker low-light performance than rival 360 cameras, and reviewers also mention no RAW support for 360° photos, slow Wi-Fi transfers to a phone and an editing workflow that leans on the mobile app.
Pros
- Sharp, detailed 8K footage in good light
- User-replaceable lenses add durability
- Quik app makes reframing 360° clips straightforward
- Advanced options such as Log and 10-bit color
Cons
- Low-light performance trails key rivals
- No RAW support for 360° photos
- Phone-focused editing with slow Wi-Fi transfers
