About the Dyson Airstrait Wet-to-Dry Hair Straightener
The Dyson Airstrait is a straightener that uses air instead of hot plates, so it can dry and straighten hair at the same time. High-pressure airflow is heated and projected evenly through the two arms as you glide them down each section, and the tool detects when hair is between its arms to manage the airflow.
There are two styling modes: wet-to-dry, for going from towel-dried hair to a finished style, and dry mode for touch-ups on hair that is already dry. Each mode has three airflow speeds and three heat settings, and an LCD screen shows what you have selected. If you stop moving for three seconds the tool pauses automatically, and a lock feature and cool shot are built in. It is listed as suitable for all hair types, including thick hair.
Power comes from Dyson's Hyperdymium motor at 1600 W on a 120V supply, with airflow of 11.9 liters per second. The swivel cord is about 1.98 m long and ends in a safety (PRCD) plug, and a non-slip heat mat is included for setting the tool down. It suits people who want a smooth, straight finish without a separate blow-dry step.
What reviewers say
Reviewers found the Airstrait does a quick job of drying and straightening in one step, saving the most time on thick or slow-drying hair, and liked that it styles with air rather than hot plates. Common complaints are the high price, a heavy, bulky build with a large plug, a learning curve, and a finish that is smooth but not always pin-straight right up to the root.
Pros
- Dries and straightens in one step, saving time on thick hair
- Styles with heated air rather than hot plates
- Smart touches like auto-pause and self-cleaning
- Testers reported styles holding well through the day
Cons
- Very expensive for a straightener
- Heavy and bulky, with a large plug
- Can't reach right to the root and may not give a pin-straight finish
