About the Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition 32GB
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition brings color to Amazon's glare-free e-reader. Its 7-inch Colorsoft display shows book covers, comics, graphic novels and color-coded highlights in soft, print-like color, while keeping the glare-free, high-contrast reading experience of a regular E Ink screen.
An upgraded front light adjusts brightness automatically and shifts its color temperature with your surroundings, from crisp white during the day to warm amber at night. There's 32GB of storage for large libraries of manga, graphic novels and Audible audiobooks, and built-in Bluetooth lets you switch to listening with wireless headphones.
The Signature Edition supports Qi wireless charging as well as USB-C. Its IPX8 waterproof design is rated to withstand immersion in up to 2 meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes, so reading by the pool or in the bath is less of a worry. Amazon rates the battery for up to 8 weeks per charge, and the device weighs 219 grams.
What reviewers say
Reviewers at Expert Reviews and Gadget Guy, along with Best Buy Canada's blog, found the color screen a real step forward for comics, covers and highlights. They liked the near-instant page turns and the auto-adjusting warm light. They also felt the colors look muted next to a phone or tablet and questioned whether color is worth the premium over a standard Kindle. Expert Reviews also noted Amazon rates battery life shorter than on black-and-white models.
Pros
- Color makes covers, comics and highlights more enjoyable
- Quick page turns and a sharp screen
- Auto-adjusting warm light for comfortable reading
- Waterproof, with wireless charging and plenty of storage
Cons
- Colors look muted compared with a phone or tablet
- Expensive for a feature many readers see as a nice extra
- Battery life is shorter than on black-and-white Kindles
