About the LG Front Control Dishwasher with QuadWash & EasyRack Plus (LDF5545ST)
The LG LDF5545ST is a 24-inch built-in dishwasher in PrintProof stainless steel with front controls and a pocket handle, so the door stays clean and uncluttered. It holds 15 place settings and runs at 48 dBA, quiet enough to start after dinner and forget about in an open-plan room.
QuadWash uses four spray arms rather than two, each rotating and oscillating to reach dishes from several angles, and the 3-stage filter keeps wash water clean through the cycle. EasyRack Plus gives a height-adjustable upper rack, folding tines, stemware holders and a 3-in-1 cutlery basket so odd shapes and tall pans can be fitted in. Nine cycles include Auto, Turbo, Delicate, Dual Wash (a different intensity for each rack) and Energy Save, with High Temp, Extra Dry and Delay Start options. Drying is by hybrid condensing inside a stainless tub.
It needs a standard 24-inch opening and is about 33 5/8 in tall; depth with the handle is around 27 1/8 in. A leak-detecting float switch and control lock are built in, it is ENERGY STAR certified at 258 kWh a year, and delivery is to the door.
What reviewers say
TechSpective's hands-on review scored the LDF5545ST 8.5 out of 10, praising a sturdy build with racks that feel stronger than most, a sensible layout, responsive controls and very quiet running. In its tests the Normal cycle came close to flawless, missing only baked-on spinach; the 58-minute Turbo cycle struggled with spinach and milk but avoided redepositing food; and Heavy Duty removed everything and left dishes fully dry at the cost of a roughly two-and-a-half-hour run. LG and several retailers cite a Reviewed.com Editors' Choice award for the LDF5545 line for its warranty, efficiency and range of cycles. Owner ratings are less tidy: one retailer's pool of 50 reviews averages 2.5 out of 5, and the model has since been discontinued, so it is sold from remaining stock.
Pros
- Very quiet at 48 dBA, with a solid build and sturdy, flexible racks
- Near-flawless Normal cycle and a Heavy Duty cycle that cleans and dries completely
- QuadWash and EasyRack Plus make loading awkward items easier
- Long warranty: 10 years on the motor, lifetime on the stainless tub and door liner
Cons
- Turbo quick cycle leaves some stubborn soils behind; Heavy Duty takes about 2.5 hours
- Owner ratings on at least one retailer site are poor
- No third rack; model is discontinued
