About the Frigidaire 7.0 cu ft Chest Freezer
A 7.0 cu ft chest freezer in white, sized for a garage, basement or utility room where a second freezer earns its keep. It is garage-ready, rated to hold a steady freezing temperature in surroundings from 0°F to 110°F, so it copes with a Florida summer or a Texas garage without the compressor losing ground.
Inside there is one removable vinyl-coated wire basket for the small items that otherwise sink to the bottom, and a flat floor below for bulk packs and seasonal harvests. The temperature dial sits on the outside, so you can adjust it without lifting the lid, and a power-on light confirms it is running. Defrost is manual, which keeps the design simple and the running costs low.
The cabinet measures about 32.6 in wide, 25 in deep and 33.3 in tall with a flip-up lid and a recessed handle, and it runs from a standard 115 V outlet. Delivery is to the door, so allow for carrying it to its final spot.
What reviewers say
There is no professional lab review of this freezer; the picture comes from shoppers. Walmart buyers rate the 7.0 cu ft Frigidaire chest freezer around 4.2 out of 5 across thousands of ratings, and the recurring praise is that it is quiet and gets down to temperature quickly after plugging in. An owner review at jdhodges.com, with the unit in an unheated Missouri garage, reports a steady freezing temperature through winter cold and summer heat and a modest power draw. Reviewers note few drawbacks beyond the basics of a manual-defrost chest freezer: it needs emptying and defrosting from time to time, there is a single basket so deeper items take some reaching, and there is no lock. Dimensions quoted by sellers vary slightly, so measure before buying.
Pros
- Quiet running, according to several buyers
- Reaches freezing temperature quickly and holds it steadily, including in an unheated garage
- External dial means no lid-lifting to adjust the temperature
- Removable basket for small items
Cons
- Manual defrost: it needs emptying and defrosting from time to time
- One basket only; deeper items take some reaching
- No lock
