About the Dyson Supersonic r Hair Dryer – Limited Edition Plum/Copper
The Dyson Supersonic r is Dyson's compact, lightweight hair dryer, and this limited edition comes in a plum and copper finish with a presentation case. Its re-engineered body is smaller and lighter than earlier Supersonic dryers, with the heater placed in the curve of the machine, and Dyson designed it to give you more control when drying and styling hard-to-reach areas.
Inside, a Hyperdymium motor spinning at up to 110,000rpm pushes air through a streamlined heater with 10 heater foils, built to heat the airflow evenly without extreme hot or cold spots. You get four heat settings including a cold shot and an ionizer to help reduce static. Each attachment is preset to a suitable heat and airflow range, and RFID chips let the dryer recognize which one is fitted and recall the setting you last used with it.
It suits people who blow-dry often and want precise styling control from a dryer whose body weighs only about 0.7 lb, and it makes an eye-catching gift thanks to the special-edition finish and case.
What reviewers say
Expert Reviews found the Supersonic r very fast, light and relatively quiet in testing, and liked how its RFID attachments set heat and airflow automatically; a hairdresser who tried it judged the blow-dry as good as a salon dryer. The main drawbacks are the high price and a bulky plug, and the reviewer felt the Airwrap i.d. is a better fit if you mainly want bouncy, curled styles at home.
Pros
- Powerful airflow for fast drying
- Very light, compact body that's easy to maneuver
- Attachments set heat and airflow automatically
- Quieter than rival dryers in testing
Cons
- High price for a hair dryer
- Bulky plug
- Less suited than an air styler to bouncy, curled looks
