About the iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo Robot Vacuum and Mop – Black
The iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo is a robot vacuum and mop in one, paired with a cleaning station that takes care of most of the maintenance. It vacuums up dust and crumbs on hard floors, carpets and rugs, while rotating mop pads scrub hard floors as it goes.
When the robot reaches carpet, the mop pads lift automatically so your rugs stay dry, which lets it vacuum and mop mixed flooring in a single run. Back at the station, the dust cup is emptied and the mop pads are washed and dried, so there is less for you to clean between runs. The setup includes a 3-liter fresh water tank.
In the app you can set a cleaning schedule that fits your routine, and the robot also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Its lithium-ion battery is rated for up to 120 minutes of run time per charge. It suits busy households with a mix of hard floors and rugs that want vacuuming and mopping handled with minimal effort.
What reviewers say
Vacuum Wars' hands-on test found the Roomba Plus 405 picks up everyday debris well, resists hair tangles and comes with a capable dock that empties the bin and washes and dries the mop pads. However, it measured weak suction and deep-carpet cleaning, found the mopping left floors overly wet and noted there are no front sensors for avoiding objects; shopper feedback at retailers has been more positive.
Pros
- Picks up fine and large debris on hard floors and carpet
- Single roller resists hair tangles
- Dock empties the bin and washes and dries the mop pads
- Mop pads lift on carpet, so mixed floors get done in one run
Cons
- Weak results on deep carpet cleaning and pet hair
- Mopping can leave floors too wet, with only one water setting
- No object-avoidance sensors and a sometimes buggy app
