About the Amazon Echo Pop Smart Speaker with Alexa, Black
The Amazon Echo Pop is a compact smart speaker with Alexa built in, sized for bedrooms, desks and other small spaces. Its rounded, fabric-covered design is about 3.9 inches wide and weighs around 196 g, so it sits easily on a nightstand or shelf, and a front-firing 1.95-inch speaker points the sound toward you.
Alexa can stream music, audiobooks and podcasts from services such as Amazon Music, Apple Music and Spotify, and you can also play audio from your phone over Bluetooth. Beyond music, it handles everyday requests like timers, weather and news updates, general questions and calls. Smart plugs, lights and other compatible smart home devices can be run by voice or through the Alexa app, and two Echo Pops can be paired as a stereo set.
It connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, runs from an AC adapter and is meant for indoor use. It suits anyone who wants to add Alexa to a bedroom, office or other smaller room.
What reviewers say
Reviewers see the Echo Pop as a fun, compact way to add Alexa to a bedroom or small room, with good microphone pickup and sound that works well for voice, podcasts and casual listening. They also point to limited bass and volume, fewer features than the Echo Dot (it has no temperature sensor) along with no 3.5 mm audio jack, and an Echo Dot that often costs only slightly more.
Pros
- Compact, playful design for small spaces
- Microphones pick up voice commands well
- Fine for podcasts, audiobooks and casual music
- Easy Alexa setup and smart home control
Cons
- Limited bass and volume for larger rooms
- No temperature sensor (unlike the Echo Dot) and no 3.5 mm audio jack
- The Echo Dot often costs only a little more
