About the Aventon Aventure.2 Fat Tire Electric Bike

The Aventon Aventure.2 is a fat-tire electric bike built for mixed surfaces, from pavement and gravel to dirt and sand. It pairs a 750W sustained (1,130W peak) rear hub motor with a removable 720Wh battery (48V, 15Ah) housed in the 6061 aluminum frame, and Aventon rates its range at up to 60 miles per charge.

It ships as a Class 2 e-bike, with throttle and pedal assist up to 20 mph. Where Class 3 e-bikes are allowed, the pedal-assist top speed can be raised to 28 mph in the Aventon app; the throttle stays limited to 20 mph. A torque sensor in the bottom bracket measures how hard you pedal and scales the motor's help to match, across four assist levels: Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo.

The build includes 26 x 4-inch puncture-resistant tires, an 80mm suspension fork with lockout, an 8-speed Shimano Altus drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors. Integrated front and rear lights include turn signals, and a full-color display shows speed, battery level, assist level and distance, with Aventon app connectivity for settings and ride stats. Fenders, a rear rack and a kickstand come standard.

The Aventure.2 was made in step-over and step-through frames, each in Regular and Large sizes, covering riders from about 4'11" to 6'4". It weighs 77 lbs and supports a total load of up to 400 lbs.

What reviewers say

Electrek, Electric Bike Report and OutdoorGearLab all rate the Aventure.2 as a capable, well-equipped fat-tire e-bike. Testers single out the torque sensor for quicker, more natural assist than the original Aventure, along with the strong 750W motor, stable handling and solid hydraulic braking. Electric Bike Report gave it an A on its hill test and measured real-world range of about 31 to 59 miles depending on assist level; OutdoorGearLab rated its display and app among the best it has tested. The common complaint is bulk: at around 77 lbs it is hard to lift onto a car rack or carry up stairs, and the wide tires add noise and drag on pavement. OutdoorGearLab also notes it is an all-terrain bike rather than a true electric mountain bike for technical trails.

Pros

  • Torque sensor gives responsive, natural-feeling assist
  • Powerful 750W (1,130W peak) motor climbs hills well
  • Turn signals, lights, fenders and rear rack come standard
  • Color display and companion app praised as easy to use
  • 4-inch tires add grip and comfort on dirt, gravel, sand and pavement

Cons

  • Heavy at about 77 lbs, which makes lifting and transport harder
  • Wide tires add noise and rolling drag on pavement
  • Not suited to technical mountain-bike trails
