About the Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0 19.5-Inch Smokeless Fire Pit with Removable Ash Pan
The Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0 is a 19.5-inch wood-burning fire pit designed to cut down on the smoke that usually comes with a backyard fire. Its design uses Solo Stove's Signature 360° Airflow to feed a secondary burn, which the brand says creates a hotter, more efficient fire that produces very little smoke once it gets going.
The 2.0 version adds a removable base plate and ash pan. Once the pit has fully cooled, you lift out the plate and empty the pan instead of tipping the whole fire pit over. The body is 304 stainless steel, while the base plate and ash pan are 430 stainless steel. At 23.3 pounds and 14.3 inches tall, it's light enough to move around the yard.
Solo Stove sizes the Bonfire for groups of about four to six people. It needs a stable, non-flammable surface, and Solo Stove says to use its Stand on wooden decks. Over time the stainless steel develops a golden-blue patina, which is normal.
What reviewers say
Reviewers at Popular Science, OutdoorGearLab, Bob Vila and Reviewed found the Bonfire 2.0 easy to light and noticeably less smoky than a standard fire pit once it's burning, and they liked the removable ash pan for cleanup. The main drawbacks raised were the high price compared with basic fire pits, sides that get hot to the touch, and having to wait for the pit to cool fully, which can take hours, before emptying the ash.
Pros
- Very little smoke once the fire is established
- Lights easily and burns wood efficiently
- Removable ash pan makes cleanup easier than tipping the pit
- Sturdy stainless build that holds up to regular use
Cons
- Costs much more than basic steel fire pits
- Sides get hot enough to sting if touched
- Ash can only be emptied once the pit has fully cooled, which can take hours
