About the Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 is the next chapter of Nintendo's hybrid console, made to move easily between handheld play and the TV. In your hands you get a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD touch screen, and when you want the big screen it connects over HDMI, with 4K capability supported.
The Joy-Con 2 controllers now attach magnetically and can also be used with mouse controls, which opens up new ways to play. The system has 256GB of internal storage (a portion is reserved for the system), and you can add more with microSD Express cards, sold separately. Battery life is rated at up to 6.5 hours, and a headphone jack lets you listen privately.
It is a good fit for families and friends who like to play together, and for anyone who wants one console for both the couch and the commute. GameChat adds voice chat, so it is easy to talk with other players while you game.
What reviewers say
Reviewers broadly see the Switch 2 as a big step up from the original Switch, praising its much faster performance and loading, the larger and sharper screen, the redesigned Joy-Con 2 with their mouse mode and strong backward compatibility. Handheld battery life is the most common complaint. Some reviewers also find HDR adds little on the handheld LCD screen, and that the thin Joy-Con 2 can get uncomfortable in long sessions.
Pros
- Major jump in performance and loading speed over the original Switch
- Larger, sharper screen that reviewers found a clear upgrade
- Magnetic Joy-Con 2 and mouse mode are well liked
- Strong backward compatibility with original Switch games
Cons
- Handheld battery life is a frequent complaint
- HDR adds little on the handheld LCD, which lacks an OLED panel's contrast
- Thin Joy-Con 2 controllers can feel tiring to hold in long sessions
