About the Apple iPhone 17 Pro
The iPhone 17 Pro line brings Apple's Pro features in two sizes, the standard Pro and the larger Pro Max. Both run on the A19 Pro chip, with a 6-core CPU, a 6-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a 16-core Neural Engine, and both use an aluminum unibody design with a Ceramic Shield 2 front.
The Super Retina XDR OLED display is Always-On and uses ProMotion to refresh at up to 120Hz, with up to 1,600 nits for HDR and 3,000 nits outdoors. On the back, the Pro Fusion camera system uses three 48MP cameras (Main, Ultra Wide and Telephoto) with optical zoom options from 0.5x up to 8x, and it records 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 120 fps. The 18MP Center Stage front camera keeps you in frame on calls and selfies.
The phones are rated IP68, charge over USB-C or with MagSafe at up to 25W, and include satellite features such as Emergency SOS and Messages via satellite. They suit photographers, creators and power users who want a Pro-level camera and display.
What reviewers say
Reviewers have praised the iPhone 17 Pro line for its camera quality, bright display, fast performance and strong battery life. IGN found the aluminum body and vapor chamber keep it relatively cool, which makes it a good gaming phone. The criticisms center on the high price and an aluminum finish that scratches more easily than glass, an issue some owners reported around the edges of the camera plateau.
Pros
- Excellent camera quality
- Bright, high-quality display
- Fast performance that holds up during gaming
- Strong battery life
Cons
- Expensive
- Aluminum finish can scuff and scratch more easily, especially around the camera plateau
