About the Maytag 4.8 cu ft Front Load Washer with Extra Power
This Maytag is a 27-inch front load washer built for heavy, dirty loads. Its Extra Power button adds a pre-wash and boosts wash temperatures so stains get a longer, hotter go, and the Heavy Duty cycle brings extra muscle for work clothes and sports kit. At the other end of the scale, Quick Wash finishes a small load in about 15 minutes.
The 12-Hr Fresh Spin option tumbles clothes gently for up to 12 hours after the cycle ends, so a load started before work is still fresh when you get home. There are ten cycles in all, including Delicates, a steam option for stains, Extra Rinse, Delay Start and a Clean Washer cycle with affresh. Automatic load-size sensing sets the water level, the knob-and-digital controls show time remaining, and the stainless steel drum will not chip or snag.
It is ENERGY STAR certified and uses about 128 kWh a year. The cabinet is 27 in wide, 38 5/8 in tall and 31 5/16 in deep, and it is stackable with a matching Maytag front load dryer or sits on an optional pedestal. Delivery is to the door.

Its Heavy Duty cycle removed about 83% of test stains, close to the best Reviewed had measured, Normal and Delicates both beat the averages, Quick Wash finished in 15 minutes, and the running cost of about 11 cents a wash was below average. The surprise was Extra Power: adding it to Heavy Duty used more water and less hot water and actually lowered stain removal, so testers saw no benefit from the headline feature. Quick Wash also leaves clothes wetter than average. Owner reviews at Plessers are mostly positive on reliability and thorough washing (86% would recommend), with a few reports of units failing within months.
