About the Apple iPad 11-inch (A16)
The 11-inch iPad with the A16 chip is Apple's everyday tablet, built for streaming, browsing, schoolwork, video calls, light creative projects and games. Its 11-inch Liquid Retina display offers 2360 x 1640 resolution with True Tone, and the A16 chip, with a 5-core CPU and 4-core GPU, powers it all.
The 12MP Landscape Center Stage front camera is positioned for video calls with the iPad held sideways, while the 12MP Wide rear camera records 4K video. Touch ID is built into the top button, USB-C handles charging and accessories, and Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 cover wireless connections. Apple rates the battery for up to 10 hours of web browsing or video on Wi-Fi.
It works with Apple Pencil (USB-C), and with Apple Pencil (1st generation) via an adapter, for handwritten notes and sketches. At just over a pound, it is easy to carry between rooms, classes and trips, making it a sensible choice for families, students and first-time iPad owners.
What reviewers say
Tom's Guide, TechRadar and Tech Advisor see the A16 iPad as a strong-value everyday tablet, highlighting the noticeable speed bump from the A16 chip, solid battery life, a light and familiar design and dependable Touch ID. The main drawbacks are no support for Apple Intelligence, a screen without anti-reflective coating that can look dim in bright light, no Apple Pencil Pro support and a design that is almost unchanged from the previous model.
Pros
- A16 chip handles everyday apps and games smoothly
- Good battery life
- Light, sleek design with reliable Touch ID
- Strong value compared with Apple's pricier iPads
Cons
- Doesn't support Apple Intelligence features
- Screen lacks anti-reflective coating and can look dim in bright light
- No Apple Pencil Pro support
