About the Apple iPhone 18 Pro
The iPhone 18 Pro is the more compact of Apple's two Pro iPhones, with a 6.3-inch ProMotion display that refreshes at up to 120Hz. It's built around a forged aluminum unibody with a Ceramic Shield 2 front, and this version comes with 256GB of storage in Black.
The camera system is the main draw for photo and video fans. The 48MP Fusion Main camera now has a variable aperture, giving you more control over depth of field and helping with low-light shots, and the system offers up to 8x optical-quality zoom. On the front, an 18MP Center Stage camera makes it easier to frame your shot and fit more people into a selfie.
Battery life is a big focus this year. Apple rates the 18 Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback, and wired charging can reach around 50% in about 15 minutes with a compatible adapter. Inside, the A20 Pro chip works with a next-generation vapor chamber to keep things cool and runs Apple Intelligence features. It suits anyone who wants Pro-level cameras and long battery life without stepping up to the larger Pro Max.
What reviewers say
Reviewers generally see the iPhone 18 Pro as a refined, incremental update to the iPhone 17 Pro rather than a big leap. Battery life and the new variable-aperture main camera get the most praise, along with strong performance and a smaller Dynamic Island. The main reservations are a higher launch price than last year's model and few reasons to upgrade if you already own a recent Pro.
Pros
- Strong battery life and faster wired charging
- Variable-aperture main camera makes a visible difference, even in automatic mode
- Fast A20 Pro chip with good sustained performance
- Smaller Dynamic Island that can show three Live Activities at once
Cons
- Only a modest step up from the iPhone 17 Pro
- Launched at a higher price than the previous model
- One review found telephoto shots and lens-flare control trail some rivals
