About the Aventon Soltera 2.5 Step-Over City Electric Bike
The Soltera 2.5 is a lightweight city e-bike from Aventon built on a 6061 double-butted aluminum step-over frame. At 46 lb it is fairly manageable to lift onto a rack or carry up a few steps, and a rear hub motor paired with a dual-sided torque sensor adds assist in proportion to how hard you pedal. There are four assist levels plus a handlebar throttle, with assistance up to 20 mph.
The removable 36V 9.6Ah battery (345.6Wh, LG cells) is rated for up to 46 miles and recharges in about 4-5 hours. Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, fast-rolling 700c x 38C Kenda tires with reflective sidewalls, and a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain with twist shifting round out the build.
It is designed for commuters and city riders who want a light, nimble bike for paved streets. Integrated front and rear lights and turn signals help you stay visible, and the Aventon app connects on iOS and Android. Fenders and racks are supported but sold separately.
What reviewers say
Electric Bike Report singled out the Soltera 2.5's sharp, agile handling and natural-feeling torque-sensor assist, and its Eco-mode range test beat Aventon's claim, though full-power riding came in well under it. The tester welcomed the hydraulic disc brakes but noted the taillight no longer doubles as a brake light, there is no mid-step frame option, and steep hills need real pedaling because the throttle alone can't manage them.
Pros
- Quick, precise handling on city streets
- Smooth, natural torque-sensor assist
- Confident stopping from the hydraulic brakes
- Light for an e-bike at around 46 lb
Cons
- Taillight no longer works as a brake light
- Steep hills need pedaling; throttle alone struggles
- Entry-level Shimano Tourney drivetrain
