About the Samsung 32" Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) 4K UHD 240Hz Smart Gaming Monitor
The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) is a flat 32-inch gaming monitor with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) OLED panel that uses Quantum Dot color. It refreshes at up to 240Hz with a 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time and supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible variable refresh rate. Samsung rates it at 250 nits typical brightness and a 1,000,000:1 static contrast ratio, with 99% DCI-P3 color coverage, up to 1 billion colors and HDR10, HDR10+ and HDR10+ Gaming support.
The screen uses Samsung's OLED Glare Free finish, verified by UL for reduced glare, and the monitor is Pantone Validated and factory calibrated. To help prevent burn-in, Samsung OLED Safeguard+ combines a pulsating heat pipe cooling system, thermal modulation that lowers brightness based on predicted surface temperature, logo and taskbar detection that dims static elements, and automatic screen dimming after 10 minutes of inactivity. In Game Mode, the Dynamic Black Equalizer automatically adjusts sharpness, saturation and black detail in dark scenes.
It also works as a smart display without a PC. Samsung's Tizen OS provides built-in streaming apps, Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Gaming Hub for game streaming, SmartThings Hub, Bixby voice control and Multi View for up to two videos at once, and the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor upscales content in the built-in apps to near-4K. App availability varies and some services require a subscription. Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2 and built-in speakers with 10W output are included.
Connections include two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 input and a two-port USB 3.0 hub. The stand offers 120mm of height adjustment plus tilt, swivel and pivot, and the monitor can be wall-mounted using its 100 x 100 mm VESA pattern. Samsung lists a power cable, HDMI cable, DisplayPort cable, USB 3.0 cable and remote control in the box.
What reviewers say
Reviewers rate the Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) highly for both gaming and entertainment. RTINGS found motion extremely sharp thanks to its near-instant response time, with low input lag at 240Hz, deep blacks in dark rooms, bright, vivid colors and fantastic reflection handling, though its VRR flicker-reduction setting adds significant input lag. TechRadar called it stunning for both gaming and video, with class-leading screen-protection features, and T3 said it excels for gaming and does everything else to a very high standard. The most common criticisms are the lack of USB-C ports and Dolby Vision, a TV-style interface that T3 found isn't the very best, and larger HDR highlights that look dimmer than small ones.

- VRR flicker-reduction setting significantly increases input lag (RTINGS)
