About the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 49" 240Hz Curved Gaming Monitor (G95SD)
The Odyssey OLED G9 G95SD is a 49-inch, 32:9 curved gaming monitor with a QD-OLED panel at Dual QHD resolution (5120 x 1440), the width of two 27-inch QHD screens side by side. Every pixel lights itself, so blacks are true black, and the 1800R curve brings the far edges of the screen closer to your eyes.
It runs at 240Hz with a 0.03 ms grey-to-grey response time, supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and is NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible. This 2024 model adds Samsung's OLED Glare Free coating, which Samsung says is 54% less glossy than its conventional anti-reflection film, and OLED Safeguard+ to manage heat and reduce the risk of burn-in.
Like Samsung's smart monitors, it has Tizen built in with the Samsung Gaming Hub for cloud gaming and streaming apps without a PC, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and two 5W speakers. Inputs are HDMI 2.1, Micro HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, and the stand is height adjustable.
What reviewers say
Independent reviews of the 2024 G95SD itself are scarce; most coverage tested the 2023 G95SC, which uses the same 49-inch QD-OLED panel, with the G95SD adding the Glare Free coating. RTINGS rated the G95SC outstanding for PC gaming thanks to its 240Hz refresh rate and near-instant response at any refresh rate, with VRR flicker in dark scenes as the main drawback. Reviewed.com named it an Editors' Choice for picture quality and motion but criticised the limited ports and confusing menus, and Home Technology Review praised the blacks and SDR picture while noting that brightness limits HDR. A PC Welt test (August 2024) quoted on Galaxus's G95SD listing praised the refresh rate, response and OLED contrast but called the sound mediocre and the USB and HDMI placement awkward.
