There's a wide choice of connections: three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack and MagSafe 3 charging, plus Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Apple rates the 72.4Wh battery for up to 24 hours of video streaming or 16 hours of wireless web use, and the laptop weighs 3.4 pounds.
What reviewers say
Reviewers see the M5 14-inch MacBook Pro as a fast, well-rounded laptop, with clear gains in graphics performance over the M4 model, a bright high-refresh display and long battery life. The main reservations are that the design and screen carry over from the previous generation, memory and storage upgrades add a lot to the cost, and one outlet measured slightly shorter battery life than the M4 model.
Pros
- Strong M5 performance, with a notable jump in graphics
- Sharp, bright XDR display with 120Hz ProMotion
- Long battery life in independent testing
- Sharp 12MP webcam and handy ports including HDMI and an SD card slot
Cons
- A modest upgrade over the M4 model, with an unchanged design
- Memory and storage upgrades are expensive
- Battery life in one test came in slightly behind the M4 model's
