About the Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer Smart Glasses
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) Wayfarer glasses combine the classic Wayfarer shape with a built-in camera, open-ear speakers and Meta AI. This pair has a Havana frame with G-15 Green sun lenses (model RW4011 690571) in the Standard fit.
A 12MP camera captures photos and 3K video hands-free, and you control it by touch or with your voice. Two open-ear speakers play music, podcasts and calls while you can still hear what's around you, and a six-microphone array picks up your voice. You can ask Meta AI about what you're looking at, have it translate a sign or send a voice message without reaching for your phone.
Ray-Ban rates the glasses for up to 9 hours on a single charge, and the charging case adds up to 50 hours more. Storage is 32GB, enough for 1,000+ photos or 100+ short videos, and they connect over Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. You'll need a compatible iPhone or Android phone.
What reviewers say
Early hands-on impressions from Engadget, TechRadar and Tom's Guide describe the Gen 3 as a modest, sensible update. They point to slightly longer rated battery life, a trimmer frame with a smaller camera opening, an extra microphone and a new programmable button, while the 12MP camera carries over. On the downside, the changes are mostly incremental, the price has gone up, privacy questions around a face-worn camera remain, and some promised features weren't available at launch.
Pros
- Slightly longer battery life than Gen 2
- Trimmer frame and a smaller, less noticeable camera opening
- Extra microphone and a new programmable action button
Cons
- Mostly incremental, cosmetic changes over Gen 2
- Higher price than the previous generation
- Privacy concerns persist, and some promised features weren't ready at launch
