About the Microsoft Surface Laptop (Copilot+ PC)
Microsoft bills the 13-inch Surface Laptop as its most portable Surface Laptop, made for people who want a light, well-built Windows machine to carry between classes, meetings and coffee shops. It weighs 2.7 lb and has a 13-inch touchscreen, so you can tap and scroll as easily as you type.
This configuration has an eight-core processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, a good match for email, documents, web apps and streaming. Battery life is rated at up to 23 hours, a backlit keyboard helps in dim rooms, and the Platinum finish keeps the look clean and understated.
It suits students and everyday users who value portability and battery life over raw power. If you plan to run heavy creative apps or keep dozens of tabs open at once, a configuration with more memory may suit you better.
What reviewers say
Reviewers who tested the 13-inch Surface Laptop in its original 16GB form praise its sturdy metal build, very good keyboard and trackpad, and long battery life, while pointing to a 60Hz screen with a lower resolution than the 13.8-inch model and uneven app and game support on Arm-based Windows. Coverage of this 8GB version questions whether 8GB is enough for a Windows laptop in 2026 and notes it loses Copilot+ features.
Pros
- Sturdy, premium-feeling metal build
- Excellent keyboard and trackpad
- Long battery life
- Compact and light for travel
Cons
- 60Hz screen with lower resolution than the 13.8-inch model
- Some apps and games don't run well on Arm-based Windows
- 8GB of RAM is tight for heavier multitasking, and this version misses out on Copilot+ features
