About the Apple MacBook Air (M5)
The MacBook Air with the M5 chip is Apple's thin-and-light laptop line, available in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. Every version uses a 10-core CPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, giving plenty of headroom for everyday work, schoolwork, photo editing and creative hobbies.
The display reaches 500 nits of brightness and supports a billion colors, P3 wide color and True Tone. A 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a three-microphone array with Voice Isolation and Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos make it well suited to video calls and streaming. Apple rates battery life at up to 18 hours of video streaming or up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing.
For connections there are two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports, MagSafe 3 charging and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, with support for up to two external displays. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread come from Apple's N1 wireless chip, and the backlit Magic Keyboard includes Touch ID. It suits students, professionals and anyone who wants a light, long-running laptop that fits neatly into the Apple ecosystem.
What reviewers say
Reviewers describe the M5 MacBook Air as an incremental but worthwhile update and one of the easiest laptop recommendations for most people, citing quick, silent fanless performance, an excellent thin metal build, long battery life and more base storage than before. The downsides they mention are an unchanged design with the display notch, a 60Hz screen with no OLED option, and a slightly higher starting price.
Pros
- Fast M5 performance with a silent, fanless design
- Thin, durable all-metal build
- Long battery life
- Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support
Cons
- Design is unchanged from the M4 model
- 60Hz display with no OLED option
- Starting price has crept up
